Bomb Blast In Nigeria Killed 18 Injured 48

Jun 30, Kathmandu- At least 18 people have been killed and 48 people have been injured in a bomb blast in Borno, a northeastern state in Nigeria.

In the incident, 18 people died and 48 people were injured, CNN reported in the news, citing emergency services in Nigeria.

The head of the local State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) said that the explosion was caused by a suspected suicide bomber.

He said, "The first explosion took place at 3 o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday during a wedding ceremony." After that, the second explosion happened at the General Hospital Gwoja and the third explosion happened at the funeral ceremony.

According to Borno State Police Spokesman Nahum Kenneth Daso, one of the three explosions in Gwoza was a woman carrying a child on her back who detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) during a wedding ceremony.

The suicide attacker also targeted the hospital in the same city and another attack was carried out at the funeral of the victims of the explosion at the wedding ceremony, WION informed.

SEMA Director General Bekindo Saidu has confirmed that 18 people including children, adults and pregnant women have died.

19 people who were seriously injured by Saidu have been taken to the regional capital Maiduguri for treatment.

Violence has been raging in the Nigerian town across the border from Cameroon for more than a decade. Boko Haram captured Gwoza in 2014 but was retaken by the Nigerian Army with the help of Chadian forces a year later.
