Police Fired Three Rounds To Catch Thief

Jul 04, Kathmandu- Banke police have arrested an accused who was sentenced to 6 years in the theft case.

The police arrested the accused Sarman Singh Sardar this morning in Duduwa rural municipality-6 Shikhanparuwa of the district. Sardar was sentenced to 6 years imprisonment and 12,000 fine by Banke District Court on 18th Asadha 2070. When the residents tried to arrest the Sardar, the police fired three rounds.

District Police Office Banke said that they had to open fire when the locals took away the weapons of the police and started attacking them. The team of District Police Office and Area Police Office Hirminiya reached at 8:30 in the morning to arrest the accused. However, even after the police arrested the local people, they snatched the Sardar and brought him back. Police said that after half an hour, he was taken into custody at 9 o'clock.

Three people, including a police officer, were injured during the clash. According to the police, Senior Constable Madan Dangi of Hirminiya Police Office was injured. 30-year-old local Nanak Singh Sikh was injured in police firing and the arrested Sardar was also injured. All the injured are being treated at Bheri Hospital Banke.
