UML Leaves Bagmati Government

Jul 05, Kathmandu- CPN-UML is going to withdraw its support to the Bagmati provincial government.

With the change in the central power equation, UML is going to withdraw its support in Bagmati, which is being led by the CPN-Maoist Center, the leader of the parliamentary party and Minister of Economic Affairs and Planning, Jagannath Thapalia informed. He said that the collective resignation of the ministers along with the withdrawal of support will be submitted to the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers office today.

Thapalia and Chief Minister Shalikram Jamkattel are both in Kathmandu. They are preparing to go back to Hetauda on Friday.

In Bagmati, there are five ministers from UML. Rameshwar Shrestha, Keshav Pokhrel, Ekalal Shrestha and Prakash Shrestha are ministers along with leader Thapalia.

UML is leaving the government for the second time in the second term of the state. On Paush 25, 2079, the first government of the second term was formed from the power equation of UML, RPP, Maoist Center and United Socialists. The government lasted only 2 and a half months and UML left the government. On 10 Paush 2079, Chief Minister Jamakattel took a vote of confidence for the coalition government with the Congress and the United Socialist Party.

On 20 Falgun 2080, with the central power equation of Maoists again with the UML, the UML went to the government in Bagmati in the first week of Chaitra. The UML, Maoist, United Socialists and our Nepali Party governments were formed. However, the current government is sure not to last long.

If there is no dramatic change in central politics, UML and Congress coalition government will be formed in Bagmati for the fourth time.
