Jul 15, Kathmandu- Illegal tobacco and Indian cigarettes worth Rs 860,000 hidden inside the shutters of a house in Bhairahawa were seized by the Bhairahawa Customs Office on Monday morning.
According to the Bhairahawa Customs Office, 280 kg of powder tobacco, 101 packets of classic Indian cigarettes and 1085 packets of ready-made tobacco with a total of 1,085 packets of tobacco, which were hidden in a warehouse in the shutters of a house in Siddharth Nagar Municipality-9 Kathautiya, behind Bouddha Chowk, Bhairahwa, were recovered.
Narad Gautam, head of the Bhairahawa Customs Office, said that the place was raided with the help of the Armed Police Force on Saturday morning after receiving information that illegal goods imported from India were kept at the place.
He said that the value of all the recovered goods was more than 860 thousand rupees. The person who kept the goods is absconding.
"During the inquiry, the housekeeper said that the shutter was rented to a person whose full identity was not opened", said the head of customs, Gautam, "The search and investigation of the absconding person is continuing".
