Aug 02, Kathmandu- Citing sources, CNN reported that an explosive device was planted in the building months ago to assassinate Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, who was killed in Iran on Wednesday morning.
Two months prior, the guesthouse where Haniyeh was scheduled to stay was where the bomb was hidden. According to sources, it was set off with a remote control once he entered the room. For the first time, the comprehensive details were made public by the New York Times.
The Iranian government and Hamas have been saying that Haniyeh was killed by Israel. Israel has neither confirmed nor denied that it caused the incident.
According to sources, the Israeli authorities informed the US about him being killed only after the incident. Iran and Hamas have previously claimed that Haniyeh was killed by a rocket fired from outside the building where she was staying.
However, it is said that the bomb was smuggled into the guesthouse from outside and it is under the control of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Wednesday, "You have killed our dear guest in our home. It has paved the way for you to be punished severely.”
