Putin Announces International 'Seamless Railway' Plan

Aug 04, Kathmandu- Russian President Vladimir Putin announced plans to develop an international transport corridor on Sunday.

"We aim to establish 'seamless railway' communication from the Baltic and Barents seas to the Persian Gulf and Indian Ocean shores," Russian President Putin said in a video address on August 4, Russia's Railway Workers' Day. "These are truly great tasks, and I believe that with your expertise, experience and commitment to the nation's interests, we will achieve them," said President Putin.

On the occasion, he also presented the outline of major projects including the high-speed railway to be integrated with the main central transport route in Moscow, the international logistics corridor and the increase of the transport route from Azov to the Black Sea. Putin said, “We need to accelerate the expansion of Russia's railway infrastructure with advanced technological upgrades using the latest innovations. Our vision is not only to meet the current needs. We must also be prepared for future demands that will ensure progress for decades to come".

He emphasized the importance of further modernization of Russia's eastern railway system, especially the Baikal-Amur, Trans-Siberian railway, and the 700-kilometer-long northern latitude railway in the Yamalo-Nenets autonomous region connecting with Arctic ports.
