Instructions For Mandatory Acceptance Of Internet Service Charges

Sep 05, Kathmandu- The Nepal Telecommunication Authority has instructed the internet service providers to get mandatory approval of the fees/tariffs charged from the customers.

On Thursday, the Economic Analysis Branch of the Authority has issued a circular/public notice reminding that according to Section 42 of the Telecommunication Act, 2053 and the conditions of the license, the fees/tariffs charged by the telecommunication service providers to the customers for providing services must be mandatorily approved by the Authority.

According to the law, it is mentioned in the notification that the notification should be published for the information of customers and general public, including the date of approval by the authority.

"Currently, some Internet (including email) service providers have not approved the service fees/tariffs and have published notices on various social networks, newspapers and websites of related service providers, which has drawn the serious attention of the authority," the notice said.

The service providers have been instructed to make arrangements for the tariff of internet services to be applied only after receiving the approval of the telecommunication service fee/tariff from the authority and issuing a notification as per the law.

In recent times, internet service providers have set their prices and brought offers on internet packages. The authority has reminded the service providers of the legal provisions after not getting approval for the offers targeted at the festival.
