Prisoner Exchange Between The US And China

Nov 28, Kathmandu- The United States and China have exchanged three prisoners each. China has released three American prisoners held in its custody in exchange for the release of three Chinese prisoners held in the United States. The move comes after President Joe Biden's administration began talks to exchange prisoners.

Mark Sweedan, Kai Lee and John Leung are on their way back to the United States, a National Security Council spokesman said in a statement Wednesday. The statement said they will return soon and reunite with their families in a few years.

This is the first time in months that such a prisoner exchange has taken place. On Wednesday, Chinese officials also confirmed the release of three Chinese citizens held in US custody. The three Chinese citizens wrongfully detained by the US were released after the Chinese government's tireless efforts, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said in a statement on Wednesday.

At the APEC summit held in Peru at the beginning of this month, Biden raised the issue of the release of his citizens who were wrongfully imprisoned with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
