Jan 03, Kathmandu- Kathmandu Metropolitan City has started producing content to develop the heritage area into smart cultural tourism based on AR (Augmented Reality), VR (Virtual Reality), and QR (Quick Response).
The Metropolitan City's Heritage and Tourism Department has started producing materials in collaboration with 'Bakham Nyane Wa'. Materials are being produced on the cultural, historical and archaeological importance of the heritage sites of Basantapur, Swayambhu, Pashupatinath, Bouddha and Nara De (Hadigaun) and the cultural and social practices related to this region. Ashaman Sangat, coordinator of the KMC Heritage and Tourism Committee, informed that history and script studies have been conducted and interviews with old personalities have been conducted to confirm the authenticity of the materials.
The metropolis has mentioned in its policy for the current fiscal year that it will promote the heritage route from Hanuman Dhoka Durbar area to Swayambhu, develop Basantapur, Swayambhu, Bouddha, Pashupatinath and Basantapur as heritage routes, and identify and map strategic, commercial and tourist routes for the promotion of these places. The metropolis has stated that it has already studied 188 monuments in the Swayambhu area, 41 in the Hanuman Dhoka Durbar area, seven in the Bouddha area, 20 in the Handigaun area and 56 monuments in the Pashupati area in the process of producing audio, video and visual materials to be displayed to tourists in the program launched in the course of implementing this policy.
The association said, "But if there is incorrect information, it cannot be corrected and no exemption can be given." Talking about the authenticity and verification of the content, he said that the essence of the content is the social and cultural traditions linked to the antiquity and originality of Kathmandu.
"The materials produced in this way are for sustainable use. For this, let's create a mechanism to study, work on preliminary information and processed information, and provide authority to the information received," said committee member and chairperson of Ward No. 18, Nhuchhekaji Maharjan. "This is not a task that can be done in a hurry. Let's work with continued participation and collaboration."
A user (tourist) needs identification and market survey study was conducted under the Mahanagar Swarnim Yojana 'Tourist City' program for smart tourism.
