Toyota Opens First Battery Factory In The US With An Investment Of $14 Billion

Feb 07, Kathmandu- Toyota has established its first in-house high-voltage battery manufacturing plant in the United States with an investment of $14 billion.

The company has announced that it will start supplying batteries for electric vehicles from this factory, which opened in North Carolina, starting next April.

Previously, Toyota had been producing batteries through its subsidiaries in Japan.

In particular, a subsidiary called Primearth EV Energy had manufactured batteries for hybrid vehicles.

However, this is the first time that Toyota has operated a battery manufacturing plant under its own ownership outside of Japan.

The new factory has 14 assembly lines, of which 10 lines will be focused on producing battery models for electric vehicles.

The batteries and modules produced there will be sent to various Toyota vehicle production centers.

The factory has an annual production capacity of 30 gigawatt-hours, which is said to be able to supply 400,000 vehicles using 70 kilowatt-hour batteries.

Although Toyota has been said to be slow in its electric vehicle strategy, this factory is expected to make the company competitive.
