Former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte Arrested

Mar 11, Kathmandu- Former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has been arrested by police.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued an arrest warrant for him, charging him with crimes against humanity. Duterte was arrested at Manila airport in the Philippine capital after his return from Hong Kong.

Duterte led a crackdown on drugs during his time as president of the Philippines from 2016 to 2022, which left thousands dead.

Earlier, regarding his possible arrest, he had said he was ready to go to prison. The International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines called the arrest a "historic moment."
