May 13, Kathmandu- 14 people have died due to consumption of toxic alcohol in India. In Punjab, according to police officials, 14 people have died due to consumption of toxic alcohol in Amritsar district.
In addition, 6 people have been admitted to the hospital. According to news agency ANI, the incident took place in Majitha, Amritsar.
Amritsar SSP Maninder Singh said, "We received information at around 9:30 pm last night that people have started dying here due to consuming spurious liquor. We took immediate action and have detained 4 people including the main supplier, Parabjit Singh."
He said 14 people have been confirmed dead and six are still undergoing treatment in hospitals. The incidents took place in Bhangali, Patalpuri, Marari Kalan, Therewal and Talwandi Ghumman villages.
According to the SSP, the Punjab government has issued instructions to take strict action against suppliers of spurious liquor.
According to Amritsar Deputy Commissioner Sakshi S, health teams are going door-to-door in the five villages to check for symptoms.
