Jul 14, Kathmandu - At least nine people were killed and 11 others injured when a lorry carrying mangoes overturned in the Pullampeta area on Sunday night, police reported on Monday.
The accident involved a lorry transporting about 40 tonnes of mangoes, with 20 workers sitting on top of the load. The vehicle lost control, resulting in the overturning, according to police officials.
After the crash, baskets of mangoes fell onto workers, causing fatalities and injuries. Local residents and emergency responders rushed to rescue the injured and transport them to hospitals.
Police attributed the accident to overloading, while the driver, who survived, stated that the lorry lost control while attempting to avoid a car coming from the opposite direction.
