Jul 28, Kathmandu - The Department of Health Services has sent anti-rabies vaccines and medicines used in snakebite treatment to all seven provinces of the country.
Dr. Pawan Jung Rayamajhi, Head of the Department's Management Division, informed that the medicines, which were already purchased and in the process of being delivered, have reached the supply centers for distribution to the health institutions of the provincial governments.
Immediately after the news of the shortage of vaccines and medicines used to treat rabies and snakebite, Health and Population Minister Pradeep Poudel had asked his subordinates to immediately manage the supply so that there is no shortage.
He had called on the officials to take all necessary measures to speed up the supply and prevent shortages in the future. Accordingly, the Department of Health Services has supplied both types of medicines to all provinces.
According to the department's data, 51,180 doses of the vaccine used against rabies have been sent to the province.
The highest number of doses have been supplied to Bagmati Province. Bagmati has received 10,080 vials of rabies vaccine and 1,000 doses of snakebite vaccine.
Similarly, the highest number of 2,500 vials of snakebite vaccine and about 5,000 vials of rabies vaccine have been supplied to Madhesh, where snakebite problems are most prevalent.
Ministry spokesperson Dr. Prakash Budhathoki said that vaccines and venom have also been supplied to other provinces based on demand.
The department has provided details of the arrangements to supply four times the current supply within two months, in addition to the current supply.
