Jul 28, Kathmandu - Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to an immediate ceasefire.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has called for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, effective from midnight local time, in what he called an important first step towards reducing tensions and establishing peace and security.

At least 33 people have been killed since fighting began on the border between the two countries on July 24. Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has called the talks "very good."

The conflict has displaced 300,000 people on both sides of the border. Thai counterpart Phumatham Wechachai Hun thanked him for his constructive engagement in the talks. Anwar said the military commanders of the two countries would hold an informal meeting at 7am on Tuesday after the ceasefire came into effect.

Then, a meeting of defense officials will be held on August 4. The outcome of the talks is expected to provide many opportunities for people on both sides to return to normalcy.
