More Than 750,000 People Have Health Insurance In Madhesh

Aug 04, Kathmandu - The number of people with health insurance in Madhesh Province has exceeded 750,000. Ramendra Prasad Kushwaha, Madhesh Province Coordinator of the Health Insurance Board, informed that 779,265 people from all eight districts of the province have joined health insurance.

With this, the number of people getting insurance in the province has reached almost 13 percent. According to the data of the National Census 2078, the total population of Madhesh Province is 6,114,600. He said that efforts are being made to make the program more effective by coordinating with the municipality and provincial governments.

With the financial support of the provincial government, the families of martyrs from Madhesh have been provided with free insurance. He said that some martyr families were covered under insurance with the Rs. 4 million allocated by the provincial government in the last fiscal year.

He said that it is difficult to fully include the families of martyrs in the insurance as it is not possible to identify all the families, their addresses cannot be confirmed and some families have migrated. According to Coordinator Kushwaha, efforts are being made to bring the basic hospitals operated by the government under the insurance service. In addition, an additional insurance limit of one lakh rupees has been added for patients with complex diseases such as cancer, heart disease, dialysis, head injury, spinal injury based on evidence.
