Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak Calls Security Chiefs for Emergency Meeting Over Dhangadhi Prison Clashes

Aug 09, Kathmandu - Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has called the heads of security agencies for a discussion on Saturday regarding the uncomfortable situation prevailing at the prison in Dhangadhi, Kailali.

The Home Minister's Secretariat has stated that Minister Lekhak has summoned the chiefs of the Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and National Investigation Department to the Home Ministry at 4 pm on Saturday to discuss the situation arising out of the clash between prisoners.

Home Secretary Gokarna Mani Duwadi, Chief of the Security and Coordination Division, Joint Secretary Ananda Kafle and others will participate in the discussion. One person was killed and 47 others were injured in a clash between prisoners last night. According to the local administration, those injured in the clash are being treated in Dhangadhi.

Prison inmates have taken control of the prison. The prisoners have taken control of the prison over an incident that left one person dead on Friday night.

According to security sources, the situation is currently out of control. Security personnel have not been able to enter the prison. The source said that it has not been possible to obtain information about the extent of damage inside.
