10 Killed In Israeli Attack On Gaza

Aug 09, Kathmandu - At least 10 people, including civilians waiting for aid, were killed in an Israeli attack on Gaza on Saturday, the Gaza Civil Defense Agency said.

At least six people were killed and 30 wounded after Israeli forces targeted civilians gathered near an aid center in central Gaza, AFP reported, citing civil security spokesman Mahmoud Bassal. He said that Israeli strikes also killed scores of people in areas of central Gaza.

At food distribution centers, including food distribution centers run by the US- and Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, thousands of Gazans are said to gather daily for aid. In recent times, Israeli forces have been targeting people waiting for help in daily attacks, killing them.

Since the start of the war, Israeli restrictions on the entry of supplies into Gaza have led to shortages of essential supplies, including food, medicine and fuel.

On Friday, the Israeli Security Council approved Prime Minister Netanyahu's plan to capture Gaza City.

In a post on social media after it sparked a wave of outrage around the world, Netanyahu said Israel was not seeking to occupy Gaza but to liberate it from Hamas. Israel is facing growing pressure to bring more than two million people in the territory back from famine and secure a ceasefire by freeing people held hostage by Palestinian militants.
