Aug 21, Kathmandu - Nepal Airlines Corporation, the national flag carrier, has expanded its engineering and maintenance services and introduced new technology.
The corporation has started the 'Magnetic Particle Inspection' service from Thursday. This is a type of 'non-destructive test'. According to the corporation's claim, once this technology is operational, the cost of sending such tests to an external company will be saved.
The corporation also aims to generate additional revenue by providing this service to other airlines. With the launch of the new service, the corporation has become self-sufficient in three NDT technologies used in the repair of aircraft wheel and brake units.
Now, the corporation's repair shop has developed the capacity to perform all the work related to 'eddy current inspection', 'fluorescent penetrant inspection' and 'magnetic particle inspection'.
According to a statement issued by the Civil Aviation Corporation, the corporation has already established and put into operation its own 'nitrogen plant' for wheel and brake unit repairs.
The corporation has also stated that plans have been put forward to establish an oxygen plant, expand the scope of work of the cabin shop and electrical shop, and re-operate the radio shop in the future.
The corporation has expressed its commitment to fully comply with the ‘CAA Nepal’ and international safety and quality standards, keeping the air safety of passengers as a high priority.
