Decision To Establish Chhayanath National Park In Mugu

Aug 29, Kathmandu - The Government of Nepal has decided to establish Chhayanath National Park in Mugum Karmarong Rural Municipality of Mugu district.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Friday on the proposal of the Ministry of Forests.

Earlier, Rara National Park was established in Mugu in 2032 BS.

After about 50 years, the decision to establish a second national park has been taken on the special initiative of Minister for Forests and Environment Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri.

Chhayanath National Park is known as the youngest national park in Nepal.

The Chhayanath National Park has been declared by separating an area of ​​about 906 square kilometers in the Dolph area of ​​Mugum Karmarong Rural Municipality, which is connected to the Shey-Phoksundo National Park in Dolpa.

Minister Shahi's secretariat has informed that Minister Shahi has taken the initiative to solve the problem of local residents having to spend a week on foot to travel to and from Shey-Phoksundo National Park for work.

Mugum Karmarong Rural Municipality had also been demanding that the area be separated and a new national park be created. The national park will be located in Ward No. 1 of the rural municipality.

With this, the number of national parks in Nepal has now reached 13.
