Maiti Nepal Birgunj Has Rescued 169 People In One Year

Sep 02, Kathmandu - Maiti Nepal Birgunj Temporary Home, an organization active in the control and prevention of human trafficking and smuggling, has rescued 169 women and children in the last fiscal year.

The data was made public at a social testing program organized by the Home Ministry in Birgunj on Tuesday. According to the data presented by Home Minister Goma Poudel, 111 women and children were rescued in the previous fiscal year 2080/81. Poudel said that among those who were rescued in both financial years, those who were rescued from the Nepal-India border in the district and those brought from India were also included in the data. According to him, 16 of the 169 rescued in the previous fiscal year were rescued from India.

The Home Ministry had searched for and reunited 14 missing women throughout the past fiscal year. Among those rescued last fiscal year, the largest number of people were from ethnic groups, 66 from tribal communities, 34 from Brahmins/Chhetris, 19 from Dalits, 9 from Muslims, 1 from Newar, and 40 from other communities, including Madhesis.

At the program, Parsa Superintendent of Police Gautam Mishra, Chief District Officer Toyanarayan Subedi and others expressed their commitment to cooperate and join hands in this work, stating that the activism and contribution of Maiti Nepal Birgunj branch in the sacred work of controlling human trafficking is commendable.
