Sep 05, Kathmandu - Telecommunications service providers have deactivated unregistered social media networks in Nepal as per government directives.
Nepal Telecom and Ncell have deactivated unregistered social media platforms across the country following a letter from the Nepal Telecommunications Authority. Nepal Telecom has written a letter to deactivate unregistered social media platforms operating in Nepal through a notice, and has stated that such social platforms have been shut down for the time being in accordance with the same directive.
Ncell has also stated that it has blocked social media platforms that are not registered in Nepal on its network as per the government's directive.
The authority had written to the government on Thursday requesting the deactivation of 26 different social media platforms. These include Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, YouTube, and WhatsApp.
