Sep 07, Kathmandu - Four days after the government shut down unlisted social media platforms, major networks have not shown much interest.
According to a source at the Ministry of Communications, only LinkedIn, Telegram and Snapchat have shown interest so far. None of the others have shown any formal interest.
Earlier, Facebook's operating company Meta was reported to be interested in listing, but a Ministry of Communications source said that the interest was not official but rather an employee of the company.
Before the deactivation, Meta representatives had come to Nepal and expressed interest in the listing.
However, upon their return, it was found that they were formally informed that the listing could not take place due to the “complicated process in Nepal.”
“We had previously requested Meta for listing,” said a ministry official. “The representative had shown interest in listing when he was here, but after returning to Singapore, he informed us that listing could not happen because the process in Nepal was complicated.”
According to him, “They said it would happen from here. When they went there, they talked about something else.”
