Sep 07, Kathmandu - Thai tycoon Anutin Charnvirakul took office as prime minister on Sunday, becoming the country's new leader with the king's approval, marking the start of a new phase in the conservative government's tenure.

"His Majesty the King has hereby approved Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul as Prime Minister," Arpath Sukanuntha, Secretary-General of the Lower House of Thailand's Parliament, announced in a royal decree at a ceremony held at the headquarters of Anutin's Bhumjaithai Party in Bangkok.

Nineteen-year-old Anutin has previously served as Deputy Prime Minister, Home Minister and Health Minister. But he is especially famous in Thailand as the main planner of the Gaza criminalization process in 2022.

He became the country's third prime minister in two years. But he only won the coalition's support after he agreed to dissolve parliament within four months and hold new elections.

Anutin has ousted the popular Shinawatra family's Pheu Thai party, which had held the executive branch since the 2023 election.

But its hereditary leader, Phatthongthaung Shinawatra, was removed from the post of prime minister by a court order last month.
