I can tolerate humiliation on myself but I can not tolerate anyone insulting the country: Prime Minister Oli

Sep 07, Kathmandu - CPN (UML) Chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that he will not tolerate any insult to the country, no matter how much he is insulted. Addressing the cadres on the last day of the second statutory general convention on Sunday, Chairman Oli reiterated his stance on nationalism.

"No matter how much insults I am subjected to, I am ready to be insulted and will tolerate it. But I will not tolerate insults to the country. The country cannot be insulted or humiliated. Our self-respect cannot be hurt," Chairman Oli said.

Addressing the delegates on current affairs, Chairman Oli expressed his views on social media and said, "We have sacrificed for freedom of speech. Therefore, no one should be confused as to whether our party has become intolerant towards social media. They are being intransigent."

Chairman Oli expressed surprise at the so-called intellectuals who created the illusion that the social media ban was a government crackdown on freedom of speech.

"For a year, the government has been saying that social media should be registered in Nepal for the sake of the country's independence and nationalism. Rather than coming under the purview of the law, they have banned its operation. But some intellectuals who are protesting do not understand the meaning of freedom of speech," he said.

He said that although some say that the 'Gen Z generation' will rebel against the social media ban, the 'Genji generation' is against the trend of hatred. Chairman Oli said, "Some also talk about inciting the Gen Z generation to revolt. But the Gen Z generation loves the country. It understands the laws of the country. The Gen Z generation is against the trend of hatred and hatred."
