Sep 07, Kathmandu - Although the government has deactivated 25 social media platforms, they are still active within the country's main administrative area, Singha Durbar. Social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, and Whatsapp can be used on the internet connected by the ministry.

Social media is active in the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and Finance. Even employees are surprised to see that social media sites like Facebook, X, and YouTube do not work on the internet and data connected to the general public, but they do work in the ministry.

The government has deactivated unlisted social media platforms among users in Nepal since Bhadra 19. The Ministry of Communications has stated that Hamro Patro and Global Diary were activated after they were listed.

According to the ministry, social media platforms that will be listed will be activated along with the prescribed documents. The ministry has stated that X and WeChat have requested the necessary information for listing by Sunday (Bhadra 22).

All social media platforms operating in the country must be listed. The ministry has stated that the listing should be done as per the Guidelines for Regulating the Use of Social Media, 2080, by designating a point of contact, a resident complaint hearing officer and an officer to monitor self-regulation compliance within Nepal.

The government has deactivated Facebook (Meta), Messenger, Instagram, YouTube, WhatsApp, X, LinkedIn, Snapchat, Reddit, and Discord, which have not been listed.

Pinterest, Signal, Threads, WeChat, Quora, Tumblr, Club House, Mastodon, Rumble, Mivi, VK, Line, Imo, Zalo, and Soul are also inactive.
