Sep 11, Kathmandu - A group of twelve former presidents and student leaders from various student organizations have expressed their stance that the demands of the youth, referred to as ‘Gen Z,’ should be addressed based on the constitution.
In a press release issued today, they emphasized the need to seek a political solution through parliamentary means, advocating for the formation of a new government within the parliament to create an environment conducive to elections.
Prominent former leaders, including Nain Singh Mahar, ex-president of Nepal Student Union; Nabina Lama, former chairperson of ANNISU; and Ranjit Tamang, ex-president of All Nepal Revolutionary, called for a firm stand to protect the republic and the constitution.
The statement highlighted that “to propel the country forward, address the demands of the protesting youth, students, and the general public, and undertake constitutional amendments in line with public aspirations, comprehensive political dialogue and consensus are essential.”
Amid widespread incidents of theft and arson across the country, the leaders also strongly urged authorities to ensure the safety of individuals, private businesses, and public assets. They stressed the importance of apprehending and controlling all escaped prisoners, as many have committed further crimes in society, posing a threat to public safety.
