Rabi Lamichhane Returns to Nakkhu Prison

Sep 13, Kathmandu - Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairman Rabi Lamichhane has returned to prison.

Lamichhane, who is in custody awaiting trial in a cooperative fraud case, had walked out of Nakkhu Prison on Bhadra 24, citing security reasons, during the Gen-Z protest. Lamichhane was criticized for taking advantage of the situation and walking out without a court order.

Releasing a video message on social media on Saturday, Lamichhane said that he was returning to prison, referring to his birthday.

"The previous government had committed extreme political vendetta against me and violated my marriage. Today, the Prime Minister himself has become the embodiment of justice in the leadership of this country. Now, I am going to prison with the hope that injustice will not be done," Lamichhane said.

Lamichhane had made public a release letter signed by prison administrator Satyaraj Joshi, stating that he had completed the process and was released.

However, the Nakkhu Prison administration called the letter made public by Lamichhane fake and asked all the prisoners who escaped, including him, to return immediately.
