Nepal Telecom Services Disrupted Due to Billing System Issues

Sep 25, Kathmandu - Nepal Telecom’s services were reportedly disrupted until Thursday morning following problems with the billing system. The outage was primarily caused by the inability to handle customer traffic due to issues with the outdated billing system, leading to a shutdown of voice, data, and SMS services.

The telecom network remained down until late Thursday morning. Customers reported issues such as phones not ringing, data services not functioning, and messages indicating that calls from Ncell to Nepal Telecom’s network were switched off.

A technical official from Nepal Telecom explained that the problem stemmed from issues within the billing system, which directly impacted service delivery. “The disruption in billing caused a direct impact on our services. Once our technical team identified the issue, we worked to resolve it. We have now fully restored the system, and services are back to normal,” the official stated.

Previously, on Shrawan 12, Nepal Telecom experienced a serious problem in its billing system, resulting in a four-hour outage of data services. The recurring service disruptions have been linked to the outdated billing system.

Following the Gen-Z movement and the formation of a new government, Nepal Telecom had planned to spend approximately 5 billion rupees on a new billing system. However, the tender process for this system has been put on indefinite hold.
