Sep 25, Kathmandu - Both India and Pakistan have lodged complaints against each other with the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has filed a formal complaint against Pakistani players Harris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan. The BCCI alleges that Rauf and Farhan displayed unnecessary gestures during the 'Super-4' match of the Asia Cup.
The complaint stems from Farhan's celebratory gesture after completing a half-century and Rauf's signaling towards the spectators during fielding at the boundary.
During the same 'Super-4' match on Sunday, tensions also arose between Pakistan's fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi and Rauf, and Indian batters Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill, leading to verbal exchanges.
In response, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has also lodged a complaint with the ICC against Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav. The controversy began after Yadav dedicated India's victory over Pakistan in the Asia Cup to the families affected by the Pulwama terrorist attack, which Pakistan termed as a political statement.
Matches between India and Pakistan are always tense. Before the group stage match, captains did not shake hands, and post-match, players did not exchange greetings.
Following the handshake omission in the group stage, Sunday's 'Super-4' encounter saw heated exchanges and tense moments on the field. The tensions have now escalated to the ICC, with both countries filing complaints. The ICC is expected to launch an investigation into the matter.
