Sep 26, Kathmandu - Stakeholders have highlighted the need for legal reform and effective implementation to ensure and continue safe abortion services. Women's rights activists, health experts, and stakeholders have urged the government to take necessary steps for this.
In Nepal, on Ashwin 10, 2059, abortion was given legal recognition through the 11th amendment of the Civil Act. In memory of this historic day, ‘National Safe Abortion Service Day’ is celebrated every year on Ashwin 10. This year, the 11th National Safe Abortion Service Day is being celebrated across the country with the main slogan ‘Safe Life, Safe Abortion Service’.
The Reproductive Health Rights Working Group, an alliance of 18 organizations including the Forum for Women, Law and Development (FWLD), has issued a joint statement on the occasion.
The statement calls for ensuring access, acceptability, and continuity of safe abortion services.
