Oct 01, Kathmandu -The death toll from a powerful earthquake that struck the island of Cebu in the central Philippines has risen to 60 and hundreds have been injured.

Hospitals are overwhelmed with the injured, forcing some to be treated outside under blue tents.
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said a 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck near Bogo, a city of about 90,000 people, at 9:59 p.m. Tuesday.

Hundreds of aftershocks followed the quake, forcing local residents to stay outside overnight. Injured children were seen crying and adults were screaming in the hospital compound, as staff continued to carry black body bags on stretchers to the morgue.
