Sep 01, Kathmandu - The Nepali Congress (NC) has voiced strong opposition to the government's decision to freeze the passports of five former high-ranking officials from the previous administration, including the former Prime Minister and Home Minister.
Krishna Prasad Paudel, Chief Secretary of the NC Party Central Office, issued a press statement today, calling on the interim government to avoid promoting impunity and to refrain from engaging in a politics of vendetta against political parties.
The passport restrictions stem from the recommendations made by a government-formed Inquiry Commission investigating the events of Bhadra 23 and 24. The commission specifically recommended that the five officials have their passports revoked and be barred from traveling outside the Kathmandu Valley without prior permission.
The Nepali Congress's statement registers its official protest against what it views as a politically motivated move.
