Monsoon Resurgence Halts Trekking to Annapurna Base Camp, B.P. Highway Restricted

Oct 04, Kathmandu - Local authorities in Myagdi have temporarily suspended trekking to the Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) and the Maurice Herzog Trail after the monsoon became unexpectedly active during its withdrawal period.

The restriction applies for Saturday and Sunday, according to the Office of Annapurna Rural Municipality-4. Ward Chairman Lok Bahadur Pun issued a public notice stating that the ban was necessary due to the possibility of heavy rainfall and snowfall, which poses a risk of accidents and hardship for trekkers.

The Annapurna Base Camp, which serves as the starting point for climbing the 8,091-meter-high Annapurna peak, falls within the geographical area of Annapurna Rural Municipality-4 in Myagdi. Following the start of the Dashain holidays, the trekking route was seeing a daily average of around 100 tourists.

The District Administration Office (DAO) of Myagdi has also issued a public request urging tourists to avoid visiting several other popular trekking areas until the rain subsides. These sites include: Poonhil, Ghorepani, Mohare Danda, Gujra, Dhorpatan and Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek.

Further compounding travel challenges, the Beni-Jomsom Road which links Myagdi's northern region to the tourist hub of Mustang, has also been hit with a movement restriction.

Vehicle operation on the Myagdi section of the road is banned from 5:00 PM to 6:00 AM daily, effective from Saturday until next Monday, to minimize risks associated with unstable terrain during the night.
