Oct 05, Kathmandu - The world is celebrating World Teachers' Day today, an annual observance that was first established in 1994.
The day is celebrated following an initiative by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). According to UNESCO, the observance is marked in partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO), UNICEF, and Education International.
The day serves to commemorate the crucial role of teachers in providing education and guidance in the lives of their students. It is dedicated to honoring and showing respect to educators worldwide for their invaluable contributions.
This year's theme for World Teachers' Day is: "Empowering Teachers: Strengthening Resilience, Building Sustainability."
However, in Nepal, formal celebrations of the day are unlikely to take place. Due to the severe, ongoing rainfall across the country, a national public holiday has been declared, effectively preventing any large-scale official programs.
