Oct 14, Kathmandu - The Department of Commerce, Supply, and Consumer Protection has announced new maximum retail prices for commonly consumed bottled and jarred water. The move aims to regulate the sale of processed drinking water, which has been sold at arbitrary prices by traders.
According to a recent notification, the price of a one-liter of bottled water in Kathmandu Valley is now capped at NPR 16, while outside the valley, it is set at NPR 20. Additionally, the price of a 20-liter jar of water in Kathmandu is limited to NPR 47, and NPR 60 outside the valley.
Previously, traders sold bottled and jarred water at their own discretion, often at inflated prices. The department has warned that any sale or distribution of water above the stipulated prices will be subject to action under the Consumer Protection Act, 2075, and relevant regulations.
