We stopped protesters carrying gelatin and gasoline to attack the airport - Army

Oct 17, Kathmandu - The Nepali Army has said that it stopped protesters carrying gelatin and petrol at the Tribhuvan International Airport during the Gen-Z protest.

Assistant Lieutenant General Manoj Thapa gave this information at a press conference organized at the Army Headquarters on Friday to publicize the annual activities. 'We stopped those who had brought gelatin and petrol with the intention of attacking the airport,' he said. 'If the airport had been closed, Nepal's image would have been tarnished at the international level.'

The Army has stated that 978 weapons were looted due to the situation created by the Gen-Z movement.

Only 586 weapons have been recovered and returned.

According to the Army Headquarters, 15,588 prisoners escaped, while 8,799 have been arrested and returned.

The maximum number of damage to 688 government offices was caused by the vandalism and arson on the 24th.

According to the military, 307 police offices, 259 private residences, 198 political party offices and 128 commercial establishments were vandalised and set on fire.

The military said that 76 people were killed, including 22 protesters, 3 police officers, 10 prisoners and 41 others.

The military also said that 61 VIPs were airlifted during the Gen-Z protests.
