Oct 17, Kathmandu - Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said that she will peacefully hand over power to a democratically elected government after six months.
Briefing the heads of various diplomatic bodies and ambassadors at Singha Durbar on Friday, Prime Minister Karki said that she has accepted the post of Prime Minister in the circumstances following the Gen-Z Movement and will hand over power to a democratically elected government through free and fair elections.
Prime Minister Karki stated that the government's full attention is focused on the preparations for the elections. Prime Minister Karki said that the possibility of an external voting system is also being explored to gradually realize the principle of universal suffrage for Nepali citizens temporarily residing abroad.
Stating that international observation will play an important role in maintaining the transparency and credibility of democratic practices, he expressed confidence that friendly countries will continue to provide goodwill and support during the election process, said Lok Bahadur Poudel, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He also said that the Prime Minister also briefed on foreign relations and policy.
During the discussion, Prime Minister Karki informed that a judicial inquiry commission has been formed to investigate the truth of the violent incidents that took place during the Gen-Z movement and said that a credible, impartial investigation will also be launched into corruption.
She expressed confidence that development partners will support the establishment of the Physical Infrastructure Reconstruction Fund to reconstruct and restore the infrastructure damaged during the movement.
