JuRI-Nepal Urges Immediate Address of Nurses' Legitimate Demands

Oct 28, Kathmandu - The JuRI-Nepal (Justice and Rights Institute Nepal) has expressed serious concern over the ongoing protests by nurses, who are an indispensable part of healthcare services.

JuRI-Nepal has expressed full solidarity with the demands, including making the nursing profession systematic and dignified, ensuring minimum wages and facilities for nurses working in private hospitals and educational institutions at the government level, providing additional service facilities for working at night and on holidays, arranging for regular upgrades and promotions based on academic qualifications and experience, arranging for permanent appointments, and providing opportunities for nurses to assume leadership roles in health institutions.

The organization has emphasized that making nursing services quality and dignified is essential not only for the sake of nurses but also for the practical implementation of the 'right of every citizen to quality health care' guaranteed by Article 35 of the Constitution of Nepal.

Stating that health service, which is a fundamental right of citizens, should not be neglected under any circumstances, JuRI-Nepal has emphasized that the government should be sensitive to formulate and implement minimum national standards in consultation with stakeholders.

The organization has strongly demanded that the government, private health institutions, and all relevant parties listen seriously to the demands of the agitating nurses, engage in immediate dialogue and discussion, and address legitimate demands in accordance with the law to boost the morale of nurses and create an environment where health services can operate unhindered.
