Elon Musk Launches AI-based 'Grokipedia' to Rival 'Wikipedia'

Oct 28, Kathmandu - Billionaire Elon Musk has launched Grokipedia, a new online encyclopedia powered by AI (artificial intelligence).

Musk has launched Grokipedia as a challenge to Wikipedia. According to Musk, the platform is designed to align with his conservative political views.

Previously, Musk announced that he would develop an alternative to Wikipedia, at the suggestion of his friend and Trump administration AI and crypto expert David Sachs. He has criticized Wikipedia and said that it gives too much priority to news sources like The New York Times and NPR.

Musk wrote in X, “An AI-powered encyclopedia would be a huge step forward for civilization and a necessary step toward understanding the universe.”

The main difference between Grokipedia and Wikipedia is in their operating system. While Wikipedia is written and edited by volunteers, Grokipedia articles are reportedly “fact-checked” by Musk’s AI chatbot Grok. Users are not allowed to edit directly, but they can make suggestions through an error reporting form.

In the early stages, some pages of Grokipedia indicated that content had been adapted from Wikipedia. A disclaimer stating, “This content is available from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 License,” appears on some pages.

Some of the content is even verbatim from Wikipedia. Musk has said that Grokipedia will stop using Wikipedia as a source by the end of this year.

But there are also differences in content between the two platforms. For example, Googlepedia’s page on former US President Donald Trump does not mention his luxury megajet from Qatar or the Trump-themed cryptocurrency token, which are covered in detail on Wikipedia.

Similarly, Musk’s own page has also removed mention of a controversial gesture that appeared to resemble a Nazi salute in January.
