Oct 30, Kathmandu - Following the Gen-Z movement, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) implemented stricter visa regulations for Nepali nationals. The UAE initially suspended visit visas from Bhadra 30, but later eased restrictions. However, the crackdown on work visas remains in effect, creating significant challenges for Nepali job seekers.
As a result, many Nepalese aspiring to work in the UAE are now facing difficulties and are exploring alternative countries for employment opportunities.
The tightening of visa issuance has adversely affected over 4,000 Nepali workers holding permits issued by the Ministry of Labour (MOL). Since the Gen-Z movement, these workers have been unable to secure visas, leaving them in a state of uncertainty.
According to Meghnath Bhurtel, former General Secretary of the Nepal Foreign Employment Business Association and current President of Nilkamal Human Resources Pvt. Ltd., more than 4,000 Nepalese holding permits from ‘Mol’ are unable to access visas, significantly impacting their livelihoods.
He says that young people with low incomes and who are trying to go abroad by taking out loans have already spent so much money. He says that young people who have completed the process to go to general labor jobs are facing problems after not getting their visas despite spending so much money.
He says that the situation of those who have completed all the procedures after undergoing medical, passing medical, facing an interview, passing the interview, finalizing the documents and completing all the procedures is miserable.
After the visa is issued, they have to pay for the visa. However, he says that those who have already arrived have not been able to pay and go after the visa has been suspended.
The UAE has tightened the issuance of visas to Nepalese, saying that there is a security threat in its country due to the Gen-Z movement. Earlier, it had tightened the visas for its citizens after the violence in Bangladesh last year. Which is still the case.
