High-level Committee Formed in Bagmati to Improve Transport Sector

Oct 31, Kathmandu - The Bagmati Province government has decided to form a high-level committee to review and improve the transport sector.

The cabinet meeting on Friday decided to approve the terms of reference and form the Bagmati Province Transport Sector Review and Reform High-Level Committee on the proposal of the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Transport.

The committee was formed on the initiative of Chief Minister Indra Bahadur Baniya to improve the transport sector in the province after widespread problems were observed. 'The transport sector is the highest revenue-generating sector in our province. About 60 percent of the country's vehicles are in this province. We have decided to form a high-level committee to manage it. We will move forward based on the committee's report.'

According to Chief Minister Baniya, the transport sector collects Rs 14 billion in revenue annually. According to him, the high-level committee was formed after disputes were seen every time a trial center was opened, licenses were distributed, and route permits were distributed. “After implementing the report of this committee, the problems in the transport sector will definitely be resolved,” he said.

The cabinet meeting decided to provide for exemption from fines as the Gen-Z movement has caused problems in transport revenue collection, said government spokesperson and Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning Prabhat Tamang.
