Teacher's death case: Statement postponed due to lack of government attorney

Nov 01, Kathmandu- Preparations were underway to record the statement of the defendant in the Doti teacher death case on Friday, but the statement has been postponed due to the lack of a government attorney. The statement has been postponed until Kartik 17 due to the lack of a government attorney in the district.

According to Police Inspector Ramchandra Joshi of the District Police Office, Doti, although the process of taking the statement of the defendant was said to be taken from Friday, the work was postponed due to the absence of the government attorney in the district.

"Although the defendant's statement was supposed to be taken yesterday, the government attorney was not there, so preparations are now underway to take the statement on the 17th. The police are currently doing the work that their agency will do. The work of taking the statement has been postponed while the lawyer is out of the district. The work of taking the statement will be done after the lawyer arrives," he said.

On Kartik 27, Janaki Khadka, a 27-year-old teacher from Purbichauki Rural Municipality-1, was found dead hanging from a tree near her house. Janaki, who works as a mathematics teacher at Bhanodaya Secondary School in Budhiganga Municipality-5 of Bajura, was studying in the fourth semester of the master's degree at Kailali Multiple Campus.

In a letter written by Janaki before her death, she revealed that Ganesh Bahadur Rawal, the education officer and school inspector of the District Education Coordination Unit, Doti, had continuously pressured her to get married. Janaki's letter mentions that Rawal had started to constantly cause her mental stress by befriending her through the social media platform Facebook.

After rejecting the marriage proposal, Rawal called Janaki's brother Pradeep and threatened, "I will kill your sister if she doesn't marry me," according to the letter, which further terrified Janaki.

Ganesh Rawal is in police custody based on the complaint filed by the deceased's family after the incident.
