Nov 03, Kathmandu - President Ram Chandra Poudel has reached Doha, the capital of Qatar. Poudel arrived in Doha on Monday to participate in the 'Second World Summit for Social Development' to be held from Kartik 18 to 20.
President Poudel, at the invitation of the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, led a Nepali delegation to Doha, Qatar, along with First Lady Sabita Poudel.
President Poudel was welcomed at the Hamad International Airport in Doha by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Nepali Ambassador Ramesh Chandra Poudel, and high-ranking officials of the embassy, including the Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations Lok Bahadur Thapa.
President Poudel is scheduled to address the main session of the 'Second World Summit for Social Development' to be held in Doha, Qatar, on Kartik 18, as decided by the United Nations General Assembly. In addition, President Poudel will meet with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, among others, on the occasion of the conference.
The previous conference was held in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1995. The conference is expected to discuss issues such as the inequality of development faced by the world today, the imbalance in population, and the impact of technology on society.
Nepal has always been an active and committed member of the United Nations since becoming a member in 1955. Nepal is currently the chairman of the United Nations Economic and Social Council.
