Former Prime Minister Bhattarai Proposes Lowering Citizenship and Voting Age to 16 in Nepal

Nov 04, Kathmandu - Former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has emphasized that the younger generation, including Gen-Z, should follow the path of leading the country through elections.

Dr. Bhattarai, through social media Facebook today, mentioned that as the revolutionary and sacrificial movement in the country seeks youth leadership, registering one's name in the voter list on time would be the first step.

He urged everyone in the country and abroad to register their names on time as per the rules, saying that the same old cycle should be put to an end in politics.

Former Prime Minister Bhattarai has also suggested that it would be appropriate for the government and the Election Commission to adopt an appropriate and feasible path and make the age for acquiring citizenship and voting the same at 16 years.

Similarly, he said that it is necessary to reduce the age limit for becoming a candidate in the election from 25 years to 18 years or at least 21 years.
