Nov 04, Kathmandu - The fifth edition of the ‘Lalabala Kathmandu International Children’s Drama Festival’ has begun with the presence of artists from twelve countries, including Nepal.
The drama festival, held at the Imperial World School auditorium on Monday, Kartik 17, will feature performances by artists from Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Iran, Thailand, UK, Japan, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Latvia, and Brazil. Artists from these different countries will present plays of various styles in their own languages and cultures. There will also be a drama workshop with children.
This festival is being organized every year under the concept and activism of Lalabala, a leading children's theatre organization. The founder and chairman of the school, Kumar Karki, says that they collaborated with Lalabala with the desire to make their school an international hub of art. There is a desire to create an international venue where foreign artists can live, eat, and perform plays. In which our students will also receive international-level theatre training.
Festival director Tanka Chaulagain says that when 50 artists from 12 countries are seen together in one place, wearing the costumes of their countries and carrying flags, they look like a flower garden blooming with various flowers.
The festival, which began on Monday, has performances from Japan, Britain, Thailand, Latvia, and Iran on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Joy House Collective Nepal and Sri Lanka will perform. On Thursday, plays by Valley View School and the Czech Republic will be staged. On Friday, the festival will conclude with plays by Shree Yantra Education Foundation, India, and Slovakia. The play performance times will be at 10:30, 1:00, and 5:00 every day.
