Nov 04, Kathmandu - UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres today paid a courtesy call on President Ram Chandra Poudel, who is in Doha, the capital of Qatar, to participate in the 'Second World Summit for Social Development'.
On that occasion, they discussed the implementation of the Copenhagen Commitment, social development, peace, social justice, and achieving the common goals of sustainable development, said Kiran Pokharel, the President's communications expert.
The President said that Nepal will work in close coordination with the United Nations to implement the Copenhagen Commitment and achieve the common goals of social development, peace, social justice, and sustainable development.
President Poudel stated that the general election has been announced for the upcoming Falgun 21 after the dissolution of the House of Representatives and that Nepal is active in holding free and fair elections, expressing confidence that this election will provide a political outlet in Nepal and ensure a journey of good governance, development and prosperity.
The President said that although Nepal has negligible carbon emissions, it is suffering from the adverse effects of climate change and expects the support of the international community to mitigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change.
