Nov 07, Kathmandu - The Taxpayer Service Office under the Department of Internal Revenue has been abolished. The department has informed that the responsibilities of these offices have been reallocated to other agencies.
According to the department, key services, including issuing permanent account number certificates, will now be available from the relevant local levels. If it takes time to implement the arrangement at the local level, the services will be provided through the current relevant District Treasury and Controller of Accounts offices.
The department has clarified that most services—such as tax payments, tax payment certificates—will be available through the online system. The department says that this arrangement has been made with the aim of making taxpayer access easier and making service delivery technology-friendly and decentralized.
However, the department has stated that the services will continue to be operated from the current Taxpayer Service Office until the alternative structure is fully implemented.
