Nepal Boosts Express Postal Services to Modernize and Connect Citizens More Effectively

Nov 07, Kathmandu - An interaction on express postal services organized in Pokhara today by the Department of Postal Services and coordinated by the Postal Directorate, Pokhara, emphasized the need to make the postal service relevant to the times.

Stating that postal services are a service sector of special importance in themselves, the speakers at the program emphasized that it should be timely and effective, and should be directly experienced by the people.

District Coordination Committee Kaski Chief Leeladhar Poudel pointed out the need to make the postal service scientific in line with the times. Stating that the postal service has a long history, he stressed that it should be transformed in line with the development of technology. He said that the regulatory body should regulate the amount of fees that private couriers can charge.

Manamaya Bhattarai Pangeni, Director General of the Department of Postal Services, said that initiatives are being taken to make this service effective and connect it closely with the general public. She informed that the department is working to make the express postal service effective in order to connect with the citizens. He said that we need to think as citizens in the service delivery.

Department Director Lilaraj Poudel said that the postal service started operating in Nepal 147 years ago. He said that although initiatives are being taken to make it effective, it has not been modernized and made professional as expected.

Shalikram Basyal, an officer at the Department of Postal Services, informed that the express postal service is a commercial public service operated under the Department of Postal Services of the Government of Nepal to exchange documents and goods in a fast, efficient, reliable and modern manner as per the demands of the time and the wishes of the customers.

He said that the aim is to provide reliable and trustworthy postal services through this. He said that the express postal service provided by the department is cheaper and time-bound than that of private service providers.

District Coordination Officer Nawaraj Baral said that the District Coordination Committee would play a coordinating role for the effectiveness of the postal service. During the program, Federal Public Service Commission Pokhara Chief Gyanendra Parajuli, Postal Directorate Pokhara Director Narayan Prasad Acharya and others pointed out the need to make service delivery effective by connecting the postal service with the citizens.
