Tragedy at Bharatpur Hospital: Pregnant Woman Dies Amid Allegations of Medical Negligence

Nov 10, Kathmandu - Relatives of the deceased have raised slogans over the death of a woman who came to Bharatpur Hospital for delivery.

After 30-year-old Sangeeta BK, a resident of Kalika Municipality-2 in Chitwan, died during treatment on Saturday, her family and relatives raised slogans at the hospital, alleging negligence on the part of the doctors. Although the pregnant Sangeeta's baby died in her womb on the 20th, the relatives allege that the mother died because the hospital doctors did not deliver the baby on time.

They have demanded action against the doctor who refused to accept Sangeeta's body and found out the cause of death. The victim's family had also submitted a memorandum to Chief District Officer Ganesh Aryal yesterday.

However, after shouting slogans in the morning, they discussed the matter with the Chief District Officer. Bharatpur Hospital, which had not made its statement public after the death of the pregnant woman on Saturday night, has issued a statement saying that the death occurred during a normal delivery after the baby died in the womb and was given painkillers as per the protocol.

By Saturday night, the baby had been dead in her womb for 48 hours. Hospital spokesperson Ram Prasad Sapkota said in a statement that the baby died after the mother suddenly fainted while the cervix was dilated to 5 degrees. During cardiopulmonary resuscitation, the heart was unable to pump blood due to a blood clot blocking the blood vessel connecting the heart and lungs.

The hospital said in a statement that efforts to save the baby for two and a half hours failed. However, the patient's family claims that the baby died because the Kalika Nagar Hospital did not remove the baby after the baby was alive and referred the baby to the hospital as an emergency.
